Defined by Guitar Club as "...a real force of nature!", the Sardinian guitarist, singer and author -who in recent years has carved out a prominent space in the Italian and international blues scene- is impossible to enclose in a single genre: his music is in fact an explosive mix of blues, soul and rock, which winks at Mediterranean music, with his feet firmly planted in the tradition of black music and his gaze wide open towards contamination. Twenty years on the road with eight albums to his credit and thousands of concerts in the most important festivals, theaters and clubs in Italy and Europe, with overseas episodes in Canada and the USA, where he represented Italy at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. The stage has always been his natural habitat, where he can experience prestigious openings (including John Mayall, Johnny Winter, Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray, Charlie Musselwhite, Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Albert Lee, Joe Bonamassa) and exciting duets with some of his reference artists, including Tommy Emmanuel, Guy Davis, Roy Rogers, Davide Van De Sfroos, Eugenio Finardi and Eric Bibb. His debut album is "Blues Journey" (2007) where he plays all by himself. In the second "Live at Amigdala Theatre" (2010) he is supported by drums, percussion and harmonica; it won the palm of Best CD of 2010 at the second edition of the 'Radio Trampa National Award' dedicated to independent productions and obtained flattering reviews from the specialized press. In 2012 "Ma-Moo Tones" was released, produced by none other than Eric Bibb, which ranks among the best 10 albums of the year for Buscadero, definitively consecrates Francesco Piu in the national blues scene and opens the doors to perform live in France, Spain, Canada, Great Britain, Norway, Switzerland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Austria and Germany. In March 2014 he released "Live at Bloom", in which Francesco experimented with more electric sounds. After the 'Gianni Mangione Blues Award' of the Italian Blues River, 2015 begins with the first real tour in the USA, during which Francesco performs in Mississippi, Tennessee and California (from the 'Club Ebony' in Indianola to the 'House Of Blues' in Los Angeles up to the 'Biscuits and Blues' in San Francisco) and records in the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis. "Peace & Groove" is the title of his penultimate studio album, released in 2016, which was immediately included by specialized magazines among the best records of the year. Born from the collaboration with the writer Salvatore Niffoi, it represents a further turning point towards more soul and rhythm'n'blues sounds, with the presence of some of the best Italian black music musicians. In June 2017 "Peace & Groove" won the 'Mario Cervo Award' as Best Album of the Year produced in Sardinia. On April 21, 2018, on the occasion of Record Store Day, a new album is released including sessions recorded by Francesco and his band in a vineyard near Alghero: "The Cann O'Now Sessions". In March 2019 Francesco opened all the Italian concerts of the 'John Mayall 85th Anniversary Tour': eight dates in the best theaters of the peninsula in the company of the father of British Blues. "Crossing", released in October 2019, is Francesco's latest album: a tribute to the music of the great Robert Johnson, whose songs are contaminated by sounds of the Mediterranean and Africa and flashes of electronics. The radio station Mojo Station elects it Best Italian Blues Album of the Year and it is included by the editorial staff of the magazine Buscadero - the only Italian - among the best productions of the past year. Great consensus also comes from the foreign press. The 'Crossing Tour' stops in Germany, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria and, of course, the length and breadth of the Italian peninsula. On May 8, 2020, the new single "We shall not be moved" is released, where Francesco duets with the great Eric Bibb and his wife Ulrika. With "Crossing" he received in 2020, for the second time, the prestigious 'Mario Cervo Award' as Best Album produced in Sardinia the previous year. 2021 is the year in which Francesco joins the talented Roberto Luti, Davide Speranza and Silvio Centamore giving life to the formation Francesco Piu & The Groovy Brotherhood: a real 'all stars' of Italian blues, who in the autumn tour records the album "Live in France" at the Théâtre Municipal de Sens, which testifies to the feeling between these musicians and the wonderful relationship that binds the Sardinian bluesman to the French public since 2010. After the last two works "Crossing" and "Live in France" in which he reaffirms his eclecticism in the context of a blues that clearly looks to the future, Francesco returns to our stage for the fourth time in his career, flanked by the drummer Matteo Frattima, to celebrate with us his first 20 amazing years of musical activity, always at the highest level!
