Sting and Jeff Beck's pianist on our stage for the third time

Jason Rebello was born in Carshalton, Surrey. His father's family comes from India. Raised in London, he studied classical music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He came to the attention of critics at a very young age, in 1990 Neville Hadsley exclaimed on Jazz FM: "at 21 he is probably the most gifted and talented pianist on the British scene since Django Bates." Strongly influenced by the style of Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner, he attracted the attention of Wayne Shorter, who produced his first album “A Clearer View” (1990), which earned him the cover of The Wire magazine. In the following ten years Jason won all the main jazz awards. In 1992 his second album, "Keeping time", arrived, which established him among the elite of international jazz at just 23 years old. Various collaborations followed with artists of the caliber of Bud Shank, Wayne Shorter, Gary Burton, Branford Marsalis, Tommy Smith, Jean Toussaint, Des'ree, Mica Paris, Carleen Anderson and Omar. He also performs with orchestras such as the Nice Symphony Orchestra and the Halle Orchestra. In 1994 his most commercially successful album was released, “Make it real”, a mix of jazz, latin, soul and hip-hop which sees the collaboration of vocalists such as Maysa Leak, Joy Rose and Cleveland Watkiss and the rapper Maxi Jazz. The partnership with Joy Rose continues in the next album, "Last dance", recorded as a piano and voice duo. 1999 saw Jason's return to acoustic jazz with the album "Next time round", recorded as a trio in New York. In 1998, following the untimely death of piano legend (and personal hero) Kenny Kirkland, Jason was invited by Sting to take his place in the band. For six years Jason toured the world as part of Sting's band, recording the Grammy-winning albums “Brand New Day” (1999) and “Sacred Love” (2003). On the night of September 11, 2001 he recorded the live DVD and CD “All this Time” at Sting's home in Tuscany. Thanks to Sting, Jason meets guitar legend Jeff Beck, who at that time was looking for a new keyboard player to replace Jan Hammer. Beck is eager to recruit Jason, whose skills and musical versatility perfectly complement Beck's love of improvisation and experimentation in the world of fusion, so he 'steals' him from his friend Sting. Jason once again tours the world, for another six years, this time in Beck's band, and is introduced to the world of rock music. He worked on the album “Emotion and Commotion” (2010) and co-wrote the single “Hammerhead” with Jeff, winner of a Grammy for best rock instrumental performance and voted a rock classic by Planet Rock Radio. Inspired by family life in Bath, in 2007 Jason embarked on the Jazz Rainbow project. Born from a love of teaching and the belief that expression through music is an important part of a child's development, Jason has worked nationally to promote learning through music workshops in schools. The project led to the production of an album, “Jazz Rainbow”, an interesting jazz reinterpretation of some well-known children's melodies. After twelve years of touring as a session man, in 2013 Rebello reaffirmed himself as a solo artist in the jazz field. On November 4, 2013 he released the album “Anything But Look” with Lyte Records. The cast includes Omar, Will Downing, Jacob Collier, Joy Rose, Pino Palladino, Troy Miller, Paul Stacey, Jeremy Stacey, Miles Bould, George Rebello and Xantone Black. His solo piano CD "Held" for Edition Records won Record of the Year at the British Jazz Awards in 2016, which also awarded him Best Pianist. In 2018 he recorded Tim Garland's album “Weather Walker”. Jason continues to teach, lecturing at various music schools and colleges including the Guildhall School of Music and Bath Spa University. He also helped create the Jazz Factory at Wiltshire Music Centre. Additionally, he composes music for the London-based music library, Audio Network. Technique, versatility and adaptability have allowed Jason to work with artists across the musical spectrum such as Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Chaka Khan, Des'ree, Mica Paris, Carleen Anderson, Pee Wee Ellis, Joss Stone, Madeline Peyroux, Manu Katche and Charlene Soraia.
