The evening serves as the perfect conclusion to the third edition of the acclaimed Canzoni&Parole - Festival della Canzone d’Autore Italiana in Paris, whose French events took place in early May and garnered remarkable success. For the first time in the festival's history, French artists will present their songs in an Italian city, right here at the FolkClub, a partner of the Canzoni&Parole Festival since its inception. The excellent composer, vocalist, and virtuoso pianist Celia Reggiani, daughter of the famous Franco-Italian actor and singer Serge Reggiani [born in Reggio Emilia in 1922 and fled to France at the age of 5 with his family to escape fascist repression], will present for the first time in Italy "Dove vai, d'où tu viens." In this show, reconnecting with her Italian roots, she offers a fascinating meeting between the great French chanson, her own repertoire, and some gems of Italian singer-songwriter tradition. The bilingual repertoire includes her own songs, those of her famous father, as well as pieces by Léo Ferré, Jacques Brel, Serge Gainsbourg, Boris Vian, Georges Moustaki, and also Gianmaria Testa and Lucio Dalla. Celia will be accompanied by three artists residing in France but closely connected to Italy: her son Matteo Michelino, Serena Rispoli, and Carlotta Persico. The evening will be opened by French singer-songwriter Céline Pruvost—bilingual in French and Italian—who has strong ties to Italy both artistically and educationally [she is also a university professor specializing in the language and tradition of Italian singer-songwriter and popular music]. She will present her own French-language repertoire, accompanied by guitarist Alex 'Kid' Gariazzo. The concert will be preceded by a daytime school event at the Altiero Spinelli High School, involving students studying the French language and their teaching staff.
Celia Reggiani is a pianist, composer, arranger, and performer. The daughter of Serge Reggiani, the renowned Italian chansonnier and actor (though naturalized French), who was extremely popular in France during the 1970s, Celia spent her formative years in New York, immersed in the jazz scene from the East to the West Village, including Spanish Harlem. Along the way, she encountered Cassandra Wilson, Mulgrew Miller, and Carter Jefferson. Upon returning to France, she played keyboards for various world music groups formed by brilliant musicians: Touré Kunda, Touré Touré (Daby Touré), Geoffrey Oryema, Mokhtar Samba, Ultramarine, Henri Dikongué, Volte Face, Tupinago, Trilok Gurtu, Bernard Lavilliers, and Princess Erika, among others—a true musical world tour that continues to influence her. After discovering Brazilian music through the great Georges Moustaki, an intimate friend of her father, she accompanied singer Mônica Passos on the piano. Numerous collaborations flourished where Celia wrote, co-wrote, and composed: for Sanchita Farruque (former singer of Nitin Sawhney) and Mokhtar Samba, for whom she arranged the album "Dounia." She also arranged the album "Abracadabrasil" for the band Tupinago. In cinema, she composed the music for the film "De force avec d'autres," directed by her brother Simon Reggiani, and for two short films by Jérôme Enrico. She also composed the music for an episode of the TV series "Les 5 dernières minutes."
