Three of the most important artists in popular music in Italy narrate, through music, a territory at the crossroads of Apennine valleys between the courses of the Trebbia, Scrivia, Borbera, and Staffora rivers, known as the 'Four Provinces'. Stefano Valla and Daniele Scurati are the two protagonists in the preservation of the dance repertoire of the double-reed popular oboe, a symbol of this area of cultural commonality. They practice this tradition at festivals and rituals in towns and villages, as well as by training new players at their school. The oboe is accompanied by the chromatic accordion, which replaced the 'musa', the Apennine bagpipe, in the early part of the last century; the long-standing collaboration between these two instruments has resulted in an extraordinary communion, unique in both technique and interpretative spirit. As remarkable musicians, Stefano and Daniele remain faithful to the popular language but masterfully blend their contemporary sensibilities, which allows them to add rhythmic and harmonic nuances to the two traditional instruments and engage with jazz, classical music, and singer-songwriter traditions. They have recorded several CDs and performed at the most important traditional music festivals in Italy, across Europe, and in China. Fabio Rinaudo, a dedicated scholar of the bagpipe, is one of the most renowned Italian performers of the instrument. Specializing in North Italian, Central French, and Irish bagpipes, he has performed over 3,000 concerts in Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, France, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Wales, England, Ireland, Portugal, and Canada throughout his career. He is the founder of the band Birkin Tree, with whom he has performed thousands of concerts in Italy, Ireland, Europe, and Canada, recording six CDs. He has participated in more than 90 recordings and numerous broadcasts for major national broadcasters, including RAI 1, RAI 3, TMC, ITALIA 1, RETE4, TELE + 3, Radio 2 RAI, Radio 24, Swiss National Radio, Radio Kerry, Radio Clare, Irish National Radio, RTI EIRANN, Rai Radio 3’s La Stanza della Musica, RSI Rete2, WDR 3 Konzert, Bayerischer Rundfunk, BBC, Belgian Radio Television, ORF Austrian Radio Television, Hessischer Rundfunk, and San Marino Radio. He actively collaborates with important musicians in the field of early music, such as Vittorio Ghielmi, Rodney Prada, Cristiano Contadin, and the renowned German flutist Dorothee Oberlinger. With them, he has recorded two albums and performed dozens of concerts at prestigious festivals in Germany, Austria, and Italy.
